Understanding Pornography Addiction - The Harmful Consequences of Excessive Sexual Imagination
Porn has become a common form of entertainment for men and women both. It is commonly watched by people of all ages. Some consider Porn as harmless fun but there are some who consider it damaging to women's sexual health and to society at large. So what's all the fuss about?

Porn, or adult movies, xxx free videos, or sexually suggestive porn videos are sexually explicit content intended to arouse and fulfill the viewing audience. Porn includes content that depict sexual behavior and often includes erotic or public porn sexual fantasy. Pornographic materials may be degrading, violent, or pornographic in nature, and portray non-consensual sex acts. Porn can result in negative consequences ranging from low self-esteem and increased rates of sexual dysfunction to increased rates of sexual offending.

A new comprehensive sex education program recently introduced in the California State Legislature seeks to curb porn use in public schools. The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Kevin Atkins, would require that all California high schools to provide information about safe sex, including the benefits and risks of porn use. According to Atkins, studies have shown that porn has an impact on sexual orientation and gender identity development. According to the study, a significant link has been drawn between porn use and decreased sexual literacy and increased rates of sexual experimentation.

The 2021 study comes at a time when the California State Legislature is debating a bill to make porn more accessible to minors. The bill, called the " condom bill " or the " condom safe sex act, would make it legal for people to purchase condoms and perform oral sex. It also would allow condom use by minors during all types of sexual activity, not just oral sex. Currently, only people over the age of eighteen can purchase and consume porn in California. The California porn bill is currently being debated in the State Legislature. If passed into law, it is expected to become a statewide law.

Studies have indicated that the relationship between porn and sexual addiction is strong. Many Porn users are unaware that they are erasing normal sexual boundaries and engaging in behaviors that are outside of their normal range of behavior. Porn is often used by couples as a way to add novelty to their relationship, but it is also frequently used by individuals who lack intimacy and are unable to produce a response to their partner's physical stimulation. Porn, even though it may seem harmless, can cause negative effects on a person's sexuality, interpersonal relationships, and self-image. A recent review of the literature suggests that there are several links between porn and sexual dysfunction.

Some of the negative effects of porn use include low libido, increased sexual arousal responses, decreased physiological arousal, and decreased response to sexual stimuli. Porn users who rely on Porn to escape from their problems are likely to experience anxiety, guilt, and depression. Another effect of porn use is that it creates an "erotic" craving for Porn. The "erotic" craving can increase sexual arousal and performance, leading to increased risk for sexual violence. Finally, porn can interfere with communication between partners.

Overcoming Porn addiction is a complex endeavor. It often takes effort and ongoing support. Many sex addicts find that talking with a trusted friend or trusted relative is helpful. Talking with a trusted friend or relative can help the sex addict understand his/her problem and find support. Friends and family provide a safe place to discuss feelings and frustrations, support the recovering addict in his/her effort to stay clean, and offer resources and information about sex addiction recovery.

As this new awareness and research become more prevalent, we will see more sex addicts seeking support groups. This increase will likely continue as studies continue to reveal the negative impacts porn has on real life. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to make sure that young people have a healthy sex education at a young age, and that we make sure they have realistic, intelligent conversations about sex and sexuality. Porn addiction is a serious problem; however, with all the recent findings it's easier than ever to overcome.
